Fellowes Cosmic Laminator Honored in Appliance Design's
Annual Competition
Itasca, Ill. (April 13, 2006) - The Fellowes Cosmic Laminator, a product that
delivers superior safety in addition to "all-in-one" hot and cold lamination
technology, was awarded a Silver EID in the Portable and Small Appliances
category in Appliance Design magazine's 19th Annual Excellence in Design
Competition. The competition recognizes products that make technology more
accessible to their users.
An independent panel of three industrial design experts judged the entries on
four criteria: appearance, human factors, innovation and technical merits. The
judges noted that the companies behind the honored entries demonstrated
attention to details and innovative approaches that sharply differentiated
winning products from their competitors.
"The purpose of Appliance Design's annual design competition is to honor those
designers who have excelled in meeting the modern challenge of harmoniously
melding technology and industrial design," said Richard Babyak, editor,
Appliance Design magazine.
Unlike any other conventional laminator currently on the market, the Fellowes
Cosmic Laminator features a state-of-the-art temperature management system
called HeatGuard TechnologyT. While in use, HeatGuard traps heat inside the
laminator through a double wall of insulation to keep the exterior from
becoming too hot to touch - a common concern among many users. The Cosmic
Laminator also allows people to perform both hot and cold lamination. While hot
lamination is more widely used, cold lamination is needed for heat sensitive
items, such as thermally printed ultrasounds and concert or sports tickets.
"Fellowes spent many hours researching how people use laminators, what they
think about laminating and what they want improved," said Jamie Fellowes,
chairman and chief executive officer for Fellowes, Inc. "The Silver EID is a
testament to Fellowes' efforts in designing a laminator that is not only of
superior quality, but that also addresses the needs of its users."
Photos and descriptions of the winners will appear in the May 2006 issue of
Appliance Design magazine, in both the print, digital and online versions at
www.appliancedesign.com.
The Fellowes Cosmic Laminator is currently available at Fry's, Comp USA,
Staples (commercial distribution only), Corporate Express and Allied Office
products, and online at WalMart.com, Amazon.com, Costco.com and
TigerDirect.com.
