Every day, businesses
manage confidential information that contains
everything from company trade secrets and
marketing research, to social security
numbers and addresses of employees, customers
and vendors. The theft of this information
from the workplace can have disastrous
consequences. In fact, in 2007 alone companies
lost an average of $6.3 million per security
breach.
The Alliance for
Secure Business Information was formed in 2008 to educate businesses
and employees about the theft of confidential
information in the workplace. This group
will launch several initiatives over the
next year, designed to build awareness
around the issue and encourage businesses
to take action to prevent the crime.
In July 2008, the Alliance embarked on
a research initiative to assess awareness,
perceptions and behaviors surrounding the
security of confidential information in
the workplace. Key findings from
the study can be found by visiting our
Key Research
Findings page.
In addition, Fellowes, Inc. has partnered
with the Identity Theft Resource Center
on a 30-second Public Service Announcement
focusing on the theft of confidential information
and best business security practices to
help prevent the crime.
The Alliance also developed a Security
101 guide,
which provides businesses and employees with
the tools they need to better protect their
assets at work. |
