Egotistical Annual Report, Preoccupied Payroll Sheet Illustrate Dangers of Identity Theft in the Workplace

Fellowes’ Two-Part On-Line Video Series Emphasizes Importance of Shredding Sensitive Information Before Disposal

Itasca, Ill. (September 25, 2007) – An arrogant corporate report takes a beating from documents in a city dumpster. A naive employee payroll sheet learns new age philosophy from takeout menus. At Page & Associates, safeguarding private information isn’t top of mind for employees or for the documents that come to life and run amok with their sensitive data.

The scenarios above are played out in a series of light-hearted videos on YouTube, created by Fellowes, Inc., the leading shredder manufacturer, in an effort to educate consumers about the dangers of identity theft in the workplace, which includes the release of any kind of confidential information such as company trade secrets and the social security numbers and addresses of employees, customers and vendors. The two videos, which will be released individually over a period of two weeks, use humor to emphasize the need to shred all proprietary information before disposal.
The proprietary Intellishred technology features a sophisticated sensor that measures the thickness of a paper stack and automatically stops a paper jam before it occurs. Similar to a traffic light which lets a driver know when they can proceed, an indicator light lets the user know when they are nearing sheet capacity. A green to yellow light indicates the user is within paper capacity.

The video campaign marks the first time Fellowes has turned to online video to educate consumers about the importance of safeguarding confidential business information, as identity theft in the workplace has become a growing threat to all businesses. In fact, according to the 2006 Identity Fraud Survey Report published by Javelin Strategy and Research, identity theft cost U.S. businesses and consumers $56.6 billion in 2005.

“Fellowes continues to explore new methods for educating consumers about the importance of shredding and protecting against identity theft” said Nancy Heaton, senior global marketing manager for Fellowes, Inc. “Many people fail to realize that a majority of the information they deal with on a daily basis can put them and their company at risk for identity theft if not properly destroyed. Given the popularity of online video and sites like YouTube, we felt this campaign offered a great way to get our message out about the dangers of the crime in a fun and entertaining way.”

The first video in the Fellowes' series, entitled, Betty Page, can be seen at www.youtube.com/pageassociates.
