We are driven by the commitment to do what is right for our business, our customers, and our planet - for now, and for generations to come.
Fellowes Team S.E.E.D. (Sustainability, Education, Empowerment, Duty) enhances the sustainability of our products, packaging, facilities, and operations through the education of our employees, customers, and suppliers.
Our goal is to break down barriers to progress and empower our employees and suppliers to make environmentally preferable choices whenever possible.
Fellowes’ Global Head Office, based in Chicago, Illinois has now been fitted with an array of solar panels to generate power. This solar array will produce 1,327,060 killowatt-hours of electricity annually.
This is the equivalent of reducing the Greenhouse gas from:
It is also the equivalent of reducing CO2 emissions from:
In addition to this our European sites in The Netherlands and Italy also have solar panels fitted.
The Fellowes’ European Head Office situated in Doncaster, is certified as compliant with ISO 14001: Environmental Management, which is audited annually.
Currently over 90% of all waste at this location is recycled, therefore greatly reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill. This waste is managed through larger points of recycling for such things as industrial packaging, etc. down to much smaller recycling points, placed throughout the building for employees to use.
Our European Head Office also features led lighting sensors throughout the office and warehouse to ensure that lighting is only on when required.
With the goal of reducing our impact on the environment, our specialist warehouse team are reviewing current packing and stacking configurations to ensure that we are utilising all available space on pallets. A higher quantity of product on a pallet will reduce the amount of pallets that need to be transported. In additions, were possible we double stack pallets on trailers to maximise the use of the space available.
FSC® Certified Materials
Since 2010 the European Range of BANKERS BOX® corrugated storage solutions and their packaging, have been manufactured using FSC certified board. In addition to this we offer a range of binding covers that are made from FSC certified material.
FSC is a global, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management worldwide. They enable businesses and consumers to make informed choices about the forest products they buy and create positive change. www.fsc.org
Our Warehouses in UK, The Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Poland are all certified with the FSC Chain of Custody and are audited every year to keep this certification.
Our products and packaging
We are continually working to reduce our impact on the environment and recognise that many small changes can make a big difference.
• All BANKERS BOX® corrugated products are made from FSC® certified board
• All corrugated packaging is 100% recyclable
• Shredder transport fitments are now made from compacted paper (like egg boxes), these can be recycled.
• The Polythene used for sleeve wrapping our BANKERS BOX products is now manufactured using 30% recycled plastic
• The sleeve wrap and shrink wrap plastics used by BANKERS BOX are 100% recyclable
Through facility optimisation and improvements in production efficiency, Fellowes has reduced annual energy consumption. High efficiency plant lighting and energy saving electronics are just a few of the ways we work toward greener manufacturing.
Research shows that 25% of climate change can be attributed to deforestation, to demonstrate our commitment to the environment, BANKERS BOX have been working in partnership with Tree-Nation on their Global Reforestation Projects.
Throughout 2019 and 2020, BANKERS BOX has planted trees with all purchases of their corrugated archival solutions, when claimed online.
From 1st January 2021, BANKERS BOX are committing to plant 1000 trees a week to help offset our CO2 emissions with no purchase necessary.
Planting Trees has many positive impacts on the environment, these include:
Trees and forests are often referred to as the ‘lungs of the planet’ for a very simple reason: they produce oxygen. It is estimated that 1 acre of trees can provide the oxygen requirements of 12 people for a year.
Absorb Harmful Gases
In addition to absorbing CO2, trees also absorb harmful pollutant gases such as sulphur dioxide, ozone, ammonia, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides.
Natural forests capture CO2, acting as carbon sinks. Every year, forests and trees absorb the equivalent of 2 billion tonnes of CO2, roughly 1/3 of all CO2 released from the burning of fossil fuels.
Deforestation enhances climate change by releasing stores of CO2. Roughly 18% of global emissions comes from deforestation (5-10 GtCO2e) which is more than the world’s entire transport sector.*
