Sustainability with substance

Earth by Fellowes has identified focus areas that yield the highest impact and strategic value for our organization.

Improved Efficiency
Improved Efficiency
Fellowes has prioritized and invested in sustainable energy sources throughout our facility network. In fact, there are 4 Fellowes locations across the globe where on-site solar arrays are present.
Waste Reduction
Our material separation program in our headquarters in Itasca, IL ensures the disassembly and organization of all waste into material classifications for reuse or recycling purposes. The result of these efforts was over 90% of the contents from potential waste being diverted from landfill.
Next Generation Packaging
In 2022, we updated and implemented our Sustainability Packaging Requirements, banning many harmful materials and designs and ensuring our products are all packaged with sustainability in mind. We are also developing creative and innovative packaging solutions that use 100% recyclable materials, aiming to eliminate all single-use packaging by 2028 for Fellowes Brands worldwide.
Responsible Sourcing
Fellowes is committed to the highest standards for ethical business practices in our facilities. With the execution and regular optimization of our Supplier Code of Conduct and supplier audits, we are actively holding our partner facilities to the same standards which meet or exceed all required laws.
Designing for the Future
As part of ongoing commitments to global environmental regulations, in 2022, Fellowes launched and integrated the Design for Environment (DfE) program into New Product Development processes, prioritizing the Indoor Air Quality and the BIFMA LEVEL 2 certifications. We are also committed to designing a variety of new products that can be disassembled and are 100% recyclables.

Designed differently, Built Better

The ANSI/BIFMA e3 Furniture Sustainability Standard is a comprehensive, multi-attribute standard for sustainability in the office furniture industry. The standard provides direction to manufacturers in the areas of materials, energy and atmosphere, human and ecosystem health, and corporate social responsibility. Third party certification (called LEVEL) is based on an audit of the corporation, the manufacturing site, and the specific products. Fellowes Brand’s products are LEVEL 1 & 2 and can contribute to LEED and WELL projects.

Fellowes Brands used the following methods for its product grouping approach for LEVEL certification:
  • The combination of base product and options with the highest volume of sales or anticipated highest volume for a new product within the product category / subcategories as defined in Annex A. It is not necessary to consider the full range of options available on the representative sample for purposes of the evaluation. Notwithstanding all products of a family group are expected to meet the intent of the credits.
  • Worst‐case sample selection as defined in the BIFMA LEVEL Standard (v 2019 ) - Section 4.
