DIY Bingo Game with Kids

Few games spark excitement and focus quite like bingo. The anticipation of spotting the next shape, the joy of recognising a match, and the proud shout of “Bingo!” make it a classic that children love.

Now imagine that excitement with a bingo game you’ve created yourself. From colourful circles and stars to tricky polygons and crescents, this DIY shapes bingo game turns learning into hands-on fun. Children can help design the cards, choose the shapes, and watch them transform into sturdy, glossy game pieces.

More than just a game, this activity supports shape recognition, attention, and visual learning. It’s a simple, creative project that combines crafting with education, making it ideal for family playtime, group activities, or early maths learning through play.

What you'll need

  • A4 sheets of coloured paper
  • Stencils, a ruler and a pencil
  • Glue
  • Laminating pouches
  • Laminator
  • Scissors or paper trimmer

Step-by-step guide

3. Draw the card grids

Divide each A4 sheet into 3 cards, with each card measuring 21 x 9.6 cm. Inside each card, draw 6 boxes measuring about 7 x 4.8 cm so that each playing card has space for 6 shapes.

Arrange and glue the shapes

4. Arrange and glue the shapes

Glue the shapes onto the cards, making sure the same shape is not repeated on a single card and that each card has 6 different shapes.

5. Laminate the sheet

Place the completed sheet into a laminating pouch and feed it into the laminator sealed edge first. Leave it to cool flat before cutting.

6. Cut out the cards

Cut along the card outlines. The lamination will seal neatly around each one, making the cards strong and reusable.

7. Play the game

A 2D Shapes Bingo Game is a fun activity that helps children learn to recognise flat shapes such as circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles. Each player gets a bingo card with different 2D shapes. The caller names or shows shapes one at a time, and players mark the matching shapes on their card. The goal is to mark all the shapes on the card and then call out “Bingo!”

Why this craft works so well

Fun and interactive:

children love spotting shapes, matching them on their cards, and racing to call out “Bingo!”

Hands-on learning:

making the game themselves helps children become familiar with 2D shapes before play even begins.

Lamination benefits:

lamination keeps the bingo cards glossy, wipe‑clean, and sturdy enough for repeated games at home or in the classroom.

Perfect for groups:

ideal for family game nights, classrooms, or small group activities where everyone can join in.

This project is simple to set up and rewarding to play. With coloured paper, a laminator, and a little creativity, you can turn basic shapes into a bright, educational bingo game that combines crafting, learning, and fun—all in one easy DIY activity.
