In a lot of cases, we are never officially taught how to sit appropriately when using a laptop. You place it on a table, maybe a sofa, or even your lap, and that’s that.

Here’s the thing: laptops are great for flexibility, not so much for posture. But with a few tweaks to your set-up, you can work without that end-of-day ache in your back or shoulders.

1 - Raise your screen

Most of us naturally hunch over a laptop. It's not just you; it’s pretty much everyone. The screen’s too low, so your neck leans forward, your shoulders follow, and before you know it, “tech neck” becomes your new normal.

2 - Use an external keyboard and mouse

It's here where people often mess up. Once your screen is lifted, your keyboard’s going to be too high to use comfortably, which can lead to wrist pain and awkward arm angles.

Purchasing an external keyboard and mouse is the only true fix for this issue. 3 - Support your back

Kitchen chairs, bar stools, or your old university desk chair are most likely not giving your lower back much love.

To fix this, your hips should be level with or slightly higher than your knees, and your feet should rest flat on the floor or on a footrest. A good back and lumbar support fills the gap between your lower back and the chair, promoting correct alignment and helping maintain the spine's natural S-shape. 4 – Consider a footrest

6 - Keep moving during the day

No chair, stand, or gadget is going to solve everything if you stay frozen at your desk for hours straight. Getting into the habit of alternating between sitting and standing throughout your day is a simple way to stay more active while working.
